Bart, known for his warmth and lively personality, was born on November 24, 1943, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, to Dr. Dewitt H. Hotchkiss and Esther, moving to Houston with his family in his early years. After a highly fulfilling life journey, his Legacy was enriched by deep-rooted relationships and meaningful experiences.
An alumnus of The Kinkaid School in Houston and Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana, where he forged lifelong friendships, Bart wedded his high school sweetheart, Sharla Earl, a union that blossomed into a remarkable 52-year marriage filled with shared dreams and accomplishments. Blessed with two children, Bret (L.B., Jr.) and Erin, Bart found immense joy and profound love in nurturing an enduring family bond.
With a knack for entrepreneurial ventures, Bart navigated various occupations, displaying a remarkable work ethic, adaptability, and a penchant for problem-solving. As the founder of The Screenery, Inc., Bart thrived in sales, real estate trades, house renovations, and culinary pursuits with his restaurant ventures. A true community advocate, Bart volunteered his time with numerous organizations, demonstrating compassion and dedication in every endeavor.
An avid golfer and intrepid traveler, Bart explored the world with his beloved wife, Sharla, embracing cultural diversity and creating unforgettable memories shared with their cherished grandchildren - Brendan, Christopher, and Elizabeth. His zest for life, his unwavering love, and his affinity for adventure defined his approach towards living every moment to the fullest.
Bart is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Sharla Hotchkiss; son, Bret (L.B., Jr.) and wife Cindy; daughter, Erin; grandchildren, Brendan, Christopher, and Elizabeth; brother, Pete; sister-in-law, Carol; nieces, Jennifer, Jackie, Jeanine, Jennifer, and nephew Nils, in addition to his extended family and friends whose lives he touched in profound ways.
A memorial service will be held at the First Methodist Church on Saturday, November 9, at 11:00, in honor of Bart's enduring legacy and spirit.
