MIDLAND, TX - Mervyn "Merv" Hale, known affectionately as Grandaddy or M.L. Hale, peacefully departed his earthly life on October 27th at the age of ninety to reunite with his Savior and loved ones in Heaven.

Merv's journey began on February 22, 1934, in Goldthwaite, Texas, born to Helen and Oran Hale. A graduate of Northside High School in Fort Worth, TX, Merv embarked on a forty-year career with Gulf (later Chevron). He shared a lifelong union with his high school sweetheart, Earlene "Jody" Smallwood, and together raised their children, Jeff and Jamie.

Moving his family to Midland, TX in 1957 for work, Merv dedicated himself to his career in drafting and reproduction until his retirement in 1992. An avid traveler, he explored places far and wide alongside Jody, creating lasting memories. A passionate golfer, supportive spectator, volunteer at Baptist Crisis Center and Meals on Wheels, Merv found fulfillment in serving others.

Known for his unwavering commitment to his family, Merv was a beacon of love and support. His indomitable spirit, combined with his devotion to Crestview Baptist Church, volunteering, and community service, touched many lives in profound ways.

Preceded in death by his parents, son Jeff Hale, and grandson Mike Hamm, Merv is survived by his beloved wife of seventy years, Earlene "Jody" Hale, daughter Jamie Hamm, son-in-law Rick Hamm, granddaughters Jennifer Burton and Halee Hamm, valued great-grandchildren Addison, Ranger, Alro James, and Micah June - a cherished legacy of love and dedication.

The family's appreciation extends to the staff of St. Joseph and Home Hospice of Midland for their compassionate care of Merv in his final days.

A celebration of life in honor of Merv Hale will take place on Friday, November 1st, at 2:00 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church in Midland, TX. Contributions to a charity of personal choice are welcomed in lieu of flowers.
