Midland—Alpha "Dean" Lackey, born on September 12, 1938, in Tahoka, Lynn County, Texas, passed away after a life dedicated to caring for others. Dean, known for her roles as a cafeteria lunch lady and being the caretaker of an in-home childcare center for over 35 years, was a devoted member of Calvary Assembly of God Church for over 40 years. Within the church, she actively participated in the Calvary Women's Ministry and the Energizers.

In her leisure moments, Dean excelled in crocheting, creating quilts that were instrumental in various fundraisers. Renowned for her specialty "Dirt Cake," she endeared herself to friends and family through her culinary talents and craftsmanship.

She is preceded in death by her mother Ozena Newton, stepfather C.T. Newton, sisters Wanda Faye, Charlene, and Albert Williams, as well as half-brother Donald Newton and his wife Jackie Newton.

Dean is survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins, creating a legacy of love and care that will live on in the memories of those she touched.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home. The funeral service is scheduled for Monday, February 17th, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church in Midland, followed by graveside services on Tuesday, February 18th, at 11:00 a.m. at Tahoka Cemetery in Tahoka, Texas. Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society are welcome as an expression of sympathy.
